MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 9300+, the latest addition to its flagship smartphone chip lineup. This new SoC (System-on-Chip) prioritizes on-device generative AI processing, significantly boosting performance for Large Language Models (LLMs) and offering a range of improvements over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300.
The Dimensity 9300+ boasts a powerful all-big core design manufactured on a 3rd generation TSMC 4nm process. This translates to a single Arm Cortex-X4 core clocked at a blazing 3.4GHz, accompanied by three additional Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. MediaTek further enhances AI processing with its NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology, integrated within the chip’s generative AI engine.
To further boost its AI performance, the chip has an APU 790 AI engine that supports a wide variety of LLMs (ranging from 1 billion to a staggering 33 billion parameters) and also runs them exceptionally efficiently. Notably, the chip achieves 22 tokens per second for LLMs with 7 billion parameters, surpassing competitors by more than double.
The Dimensity 9300+ is paired with an Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU, capable of delivering 60FPS gameplay with raytracing effects and console-grade global illumination. MediaTek’s HyperEngine technologies further elevate the gaming experience, while the Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) optimizes power efficiency for popular games.
On the imaging front, the chip integrates MediaTek’s Imagiq 990 ISP, featuring an 18-bit RAW processing capability and an AI Semantic Analysis Video Engine. This engine unlocks AI videography features like 16-scene segmentation, which reduces noise, enhances brightness, and optimizes colors in real time.
The chip also integrates a 5G R16 modem with AI situational awareness. This modem supports 4CC-CA Sub-6GHz technology, delivering blazing-fast downlink speeds of up to 7Gbps.
