TikTok launches Instagram-clone Whee

The new social app lets users share photos with friends.

TikTok owner Bytedance has quietly launched an Instagram competitor called Whee.

Based on the description and screenshots on Google Play, the new social app lets users capture and share photos with friends. “Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self,” it reads. “Whee is the best place for close friends to share life moments.”

Android Police reports that Whee was first spotted by Artem Russakovskii. The app is available for download on Android in several regions, including the Philippines.

We gave the app a go. It detected our TikTok account and led us to its profile creation page. It’s like Instagram before the makeover where it’s just about sharing photos. However, you are limited to seeing photos from your friends for now. It’s unclear if this is its final form or if it will include other functionalities.

Whee is on a limited release, which seems to exclude the US. If you want to give it a try, the app is available for download on the Google Play Store.
