PLDT and Smart partner with GSMA for Open Gateway initiative

Smart Communications and PLDT Enterprise have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GSMA, the global mobile operator association.

This partnership signifies their commitment to GSMA’s Open Gateway initiative, a framework promoting standardized Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

These common APIs aim to simplify connectivity and development for businesses. They will grant enterprise developers universal access to mobile networks worldwide, fostering faster deployment of new services.

Additionally, the initiative promises a more secure and immersive 5G experience for Filipino users.

Through this MOU, Smart gains access to a network of over 50 mobile operator groups, representing more than 240 mobile network operators (MNOs) and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) that are already part of Open Gateway.

These players are collaborating with developers and cloud providers to expedite service deployment across networks. Currently, functionalities like number verification, SMS two-factor authentication, SIM swap, and device location are being tested and deployed using these standardized APIs.
